Principal's CORNER- AUGUST

Greetings, Rio Linda students, families, and community. I am beyond excited to join the Squire team as your new Principal. This year will be a little different as we return from distance and hybrid learning, but I know we can make the most of every day we have together. I would like to share with you a little about me to help us get to know each other.

I am a mother of two. My son is entering 3rd grade and my daughter is starting 5th grade this year. Reading is my favorite hobby, but I also enjoy swimming, art, and playing board games with my family. I love taking on new challenges and solving problems. I believe that we are always better together, and I enjoy working with a team to ensure that the decisions we make are ethical, effective, and what is best for all.

I started my teaching career in 2007 as a long-term substitute in a 7th grade English and History core class within a smaller school district in San Jose, CA. I then received my own 6th grade classroom and taught English and History for 8 years, taking half a year to serve as Interim Assistant Principal of an elementary school in the district. My next role was as an Instructional Coach at my middle school in which I supported my colleagues with their teaching practice and increasing student success.

In 2016, my family and I moved to the Sacramento area, and I became a Teacher on Special Assignment at an elementary school in Sacramento, working again with teachers and students to increase achievement and build school connections. I have been a high school Vice Principal for the past 4 years, working most recently just down the road at Highlands High School. I have also spent several summers as a summer school Principal in elementary and secondary.

I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to work and grow in elementary and high schools, but I am most excited about being back in a middle school setting. I look forward to being able to use my knowledge of where students have been, and where they need to go, to build meaningful experiences for our Squires.

As we begin our 2021/2022 school year, I would like to say thank you for choosing us to lead you through 7th and 8th grades, to build the foundation for future high school and post-secondary success. We are excited that school will return to full-day, 5 days a week. School starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:37 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Wednesdays are Early Out, and school goes from 8:00 a.m. to 12:37 p.m. At this time, students and staff are required to wear masks on campus while they are indoors. We will keep families up-to-date on information regarding COVID-19 Prevention as it becomes available.

To help with communication, parents are encouraged to set up their Aeries Parent Portal. If you haven’t already done so, you can use your student’s ID number to create an account. Click this link for set-up instructions.

This will be a year of growth and connections for our Squires, and I am so glad to be a part of it!
